Most people in the U.S. don't know how great the spirit, comraderie and celebration are at the European Soccer Championships. More generally, we Americans don't really know enough about what Europeans have on their mind, what your thoughts and feelings are on this and that. Would you consider participating in the following small project? Make a videoblog in the coming days leading up to the June 29 EURO 2008 final. Interview yourself, your friends, your families.... in a restaurant, a bar, at a stadium, in a public viewing area, at home, in the street. Identify your first name, city and country. Ask three questions (you certainly don't have to limit yourself to these questions).
1. What do you want to share with the American people about the spirit of EURO 2008?
2. What do you want the European-U.S. relationship to look like, after our November presidential elections?
3. What do YOU think is the next step for the human race?
Your video can be short (2 or 3 minutes) or long (30 minutes or more). Upload it to YouTube. Send me an email with the YouTube video code, and I will put a link on my blog of all videos. Of course, for those not wishing or able to videoblog, you may also do normal blog postings, so others can read what you have to say. Try to have your video done by the time of the EURO final, or at the latest by July 15, with memories of the competition still strong. Upload to Youtube by August 1.
Why this project?
To promote dialogue between the people's of our two continents....to give Europeans an opportunity to share with us your thinking and feelings (whether joyfully or angrily, it's all good)....to give Americans an opportunity to listen and benefit by your thinking....to promote togetherness, cooperative visions for the future, and goodwill....to explore the healing capabilities of football for humanity.
